The ISO 8295 standard is dedicated to the determination of the static and kinetic coefficients of friction of plastic films and sheets sliding on themselves or on other materials. It is suitable for non-tacky plastic films and sheets with a thickness less than or equal to 0.5 mm.
From a practical standpoint, the specimens are tested in planar contact and uniform contact pressure. The force required for moving the surfaces relative to each other is recorded.
The system we have devised is comprised of a horizontal friction table, a carriage (whose mass is defined in the standard) and a sheave drive mechanism. The latter enables the carriage to move in relation to the fixed test table. A film strip is attached to the test table using a double-sided tape. A second strip is fixed under the carriage, always using double-sided tape. Finally, the trolley is placed on the table. The test can then start, the displacement taking place at constant speed.
After testing, the force curve is used to calculate the static and dynamic friction coefficients.
Do not hesitate to contact us, either for the realization of test campaigns or for the manufacturing of the system, which can be adapted to all the traction machines.
