Read more...The knowledge of the rheological behavior of a polymeric melt, represented by a flow curve depicting the variation of the melt viscosity over a range of shear rate, is essential in the design of polymer processing equipment, process optimization and trouble-shooting. These data are generated by sophisticated rheometers that are beyond the technical and financial means of most thermoplastics users. The only flow parameter available is the Melt Flow Index MFI (also called Melt Flow Rate MFR)
In this article series, we will detail a method to define the rheological behavior of thermoplastic polymers using a MFI-type device.
